I have all of my fans on a very warm day running around 1600 1700 rpms.
Imac cpu fan 4000 rpm.
I re seated the wires and last night the fans behaved with the cpu and power supply temp going all the way to 50 degrees celsius.
Getting start with macs fan control.
Most cooler days below 80 f my imac s fans run in the 1400 1500 rpm range.
This solution should only be used if you know what you re doing and you are absolutely sure the cpu fan on your imac is indeed out of control.
Using terminal commands there is a way to force your cpu fan to run at tolerable rpms.
I installed applications that monitor temperature and fan speed and the funny thing is that for example if the cpu is 50 Âșc 122 f the fan spins at about 900 rpm and if the sensor optical drive that is attached to ssd shows 54 c 129 2 the fan is already at 1500 2000 rpm.
You probably have a faulty sensor.
Cpu fan runs at 4000 rpm after hd replacement i have previously posted another question about what to replace when i had a faulty hd on my imac.
Depending on the brand 4000 to 6000 rpm.
This morning i woke up my imac and as soon as the cpu temp hit 44 the fan cpu fan went full blast.
The fans stayed at a rock steady 1000 rpm the whole time.
If you remove the sticker off the back of fan there is a little plastic clamp that u can remove with a micro screwdriver and clean it.
If using a simple fan control like smc fan control i would really keep the fan speeds at or below 2000 rpms and on a hot and humid day above 85 f run them within a 1500 to 1800 rpm ramge only.
This is a hardware problem idle fan speed should be around 2500 rpm.
I advise using your warranty and getting it fixed.
Please click yes if i have answered your question thankyou.
The fan speed is controlled by 2 temperature sensors one each for the cpu and gpu.
To get started head to the macs fan control download page and grab the mac version there s a windows version but is only intended for macs running windows with boot camp other pc fans aren t supported the download comes in a zip archive which you can unarchive simply by opening it.
That was answered really so this is a new post to cover the current problem.
